AI in Software Development: The Real Picture

AI is making waves, and for good reason. But is it the productivity game-changer everyone’s hyping it up to be? Not quite—at least not yet.

Take this: AI might improve coding productivity by 200%. Sounds awesome, right? But here’s the catch—coding only makes up about 20% of a developer’s work. So, that 200% improvement applies to just a slice of what we do. The rest of our time goes to testing, debugging, and meetings (a.k.a. the stuff AI can’t handle…yet).

I’ve been playing around with AI tools like GitHub Copilot in my personal coding projects, and while they’re helpful, they’re far from perfect. Think of them as a junior assistant—they can make suggestions, but you still have to double-check their work.

AI has potential, no doubt about it. But for now? It’s more of a helper than a hero.

What’s your take? Have you tried using AI in your workflow? Let’s discuss!
